Grupo Corral, a leader in the sector of organic waste transformation into raw material, aims to integrate the waste reuse in the circular economy.
Europe is moving towards a zero-emission economy by 2050, in which sustainability and the valorisation of raw materials are deeply rooted in society.
In this context, there are industries and sectors whose work can be highly decisive and initiatives that will be essential when contributing to these objectives.
The promotion of more sustainable and circular models such as the management of animal by-products will help to reduce the human ecological footprint.
More than 17 million tonnes of Animal By-Products Not Aimed for Human Consumption (SANDACH, by its acronym in Spanish) are currently managed in Europe.
These are generated in primary livestock production and in the processing industries of animal-origin foods.
A significant proportion of these are disposed of in landfills or through incineration processes. This situation is a serious problem for both the climate and the environment, since they often contain substances harmful to the environment which are controversial.
However, following a proper treatment, raw materials capable of producing biofuels, animal feed, pharmaceutical products or energy, among other end markets, can be obtained.
From a Challenge into a Mission
Grupo Corral, with more than 35 years of experience in the treatment of animal by-products, currently operates four plants dedicated to the extraction of raw materials such as fats and proteins.
These facilities are located in the province of Salamanca.
The Future of Valorisation Starts Here
The challenge ahead for a leading company in the industry like Grupo Corral is to encompass a circular economy process capable of transforming animal waste into raw material for the production of second-generation renewable fuels with zero emissions, considered as the fuel of the future for transportation; as well as proteins, used as a main ingredient in pet food, fertilisers, and feedstuffs.
Commitment to Job Opportunities and Sustainability
Grupo Corral maintains a permanent commitment to sustainability, the environment and job creation.
Currently, the company is immersed in an expansion process, with which it plans to extend its infrastructure and production capacity, thereby increasing the volume available for processing in production plants and its work in the commitment to zero emissions and the environment.
